HB 244 was introduced on 2/28/2023 and referred to the House Health and Welfare Committee on 3/1/2023. This bill is sponsored by the House Health and Welfare Committee.

HB 244 prohibits assisted living health care facilities from precluding in-person visitation based on the visitors vaccination status, and requires that any health screening protocols shall not be more stringent for visitors than for faculty staff.

(20) A facility may not require precautions, such as health screenings, for in-person visitors that are more stringent than precautions for facility staff, and in-person access pursuant to subsection (7)(a) and (b) of this section shall not be precluded on the basis of a visitor's vaccination status.

SECTION 2. An emergency existing therefor, which emergency is hereby declared to exist, this act shall be in full force and effect on and after July 1, 2023.

NVIC SUPPORTS HB 244 because it prohibits assisted living health care facilities from requiring the visitor to provide proof of immunization or vaccination. NVIC is opposed to discrimination based on vaccination status. This bill would help individuals visit their loved ones in-person in assisted living health care facilities regardless of the visitor's vaccination status. NVIC does not take a position on the rest of the bill's provisions which are unrelated to vaccines.
