UPDATE: 4/20/2024 - SF 2149 died, it failed to be scheduled for a hearing in a subcommittee of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee before the 2024 session ended on 4/20/2024.

UPDATE: 1/31/2024 - SF 2149 was referred to a subcommittee of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee with Senators Edler, Guth, and Wahls on 1/31/2024.

SF 2149 was introduced in the Senate and referred to the Senate Health and Human Services Committee on 1/30/2024. This bill is sponsored by Senator Dennis Guth.

SF 2149 requires the state medical examiner to investigate all infant deaths age zero (0) to three (3) years old to include any previous vaccination the child had prior to their death.

SF 2149 creates a new section of code to be titled, "Medical Examiner Investigation Form for Infant Deaths Age Zero to Three- Information Regarding Immunizations." This code requires (1) the medical examiner to produce an investigation form that includes a request for the information regarding the date and type of the decedent's last vaccine, including all vaccines administered if there was more than one vaccine given at the date of last vaccination. This new section of code also requires (2) the Department of Health and Human Services to amend the medical examiner investigation form to include the vaccine information in this section for infant deaths of zero (0) to three (3) years of age.

NVIC SUPPORTS SF 2149 because vaccines are pharmaceutical products known to carry a risk of injury and even death. Despite this known risk, vaccines are often overlooked during a postmortem medical examination for an infant death. An analysis of the VAERS database from 1990-2019 shows that of all sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) cases reported post-vaccination, 75% occurred within seven days of vaccination. Another study shows that infant mortality rates regressed against the number of vaccine doses routinely given, suggesting biochemical or synergistic toxicity with routine infant vaccination. This bill would prevent a medical examiner from ignoring vaccines as a cause or contributing factor in a child's death, which would increase awareness of vaccine risks and enable parents to make fully informed vaccine decisions for their children. This bill would help document serious vaccine adverse events that are underreported and egregiously overlooked. NVIC supports informed consent for all individuals.
