H.471 was introduced and referred to the Joint Committee on Education on 2/16/2023. This bill is sponsored by Representative William J. Driscoll, Jr.

This bill mandates the Dept. of Health add (HPV) human papilloma virus and hepatitis A to the list of vaccines required for school. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health does not currently require students be vaccinated against (HPV) human papilloma virus or hepatitis A to attend school. 

Current state law paragraph to be removed:

Section 15: Vaccination and immunizations - No child shall, except as hereinafter provided, be admitted to school except upon presentation of a physician's certificate that the child has been successfully immunized against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, measles and poliomyelitis and such other communicable diseases as may be specified from time to time by the department of public health.

Proposed new Section 15 first paragraph:

No child shall, except as hereinafter provided, be admitted to school except upon presentation of a physician's certificate that the child has been successfully immunized against:

(a) diphtheria, (b) pertussis, (c) tetanus, (d) measles, (e) poliomyelitis, (f) human papilloma virus, (g) hepatitis A, according to the schedule and dosage recommended by the centers for disease control, and (h) such other communicable diseases as may be specified from time to time by the department of public health.

The department of public health shall promulgate regulations to implement this section.
