SB 99 was filed on 1/10/2023 and is pending committee assignment on 1/12/2023. This bill is sponsored by Senator Nicely. HB 299 was introduced on 1/20/2023 and is pending committee assignment. This bill is sponsored by Representative Susan Lynn.
These bills prohibit the manufacture, sale, or delivery, holding, or offering for sale of any livestock carcass, part of any livestock carcass, or meat food product that contains a mRNA vaccine or vaccine material unless the product labeling contains a conspicuous notification of the presence of the mRNA vaccine or vaccine material in the product.
The bill defines mRNA or vaccine material as a substance to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against disease by introducing messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) that corresponds to a viral protein.
Because we have already seen with COVID-19 vaccines that not all vaccines produce immunity. NVIC suggests changing the definition of "mRNA or vaccine material" to change the word "and" to "or" in this part of the definition: "substance to stimulate the production of antibodies and or provide immunity against disease."
