UPDATE: 4/3/2024 - HB 809 was referred to the House Health and Welfare Committee on 4/3/2024.
HB 809 was introduced in the House on 4/2/2024. This bill is sponsored by Representative Jay Galle.
HB 809 prohibits the state from implementing or enforcing any CDC public health requirements or mandates without approval by the legislature and the governor.
HB 809 amends and reenacts R.S. 49:20, related to the jurisdiction of certain federal health agencies, to prohibit requirements by certain governmental agencies and is summarized as follows:
SECTION 1. Prohibits the state from implementing or enforcing any requirements or mandates from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) without an affirmative vote by the legislature and a signature by the governor. No recommendations, instructions, or guidance provided by the CDC will be used to justify any public health requirement or mandate, including but not limited to mask, vaccine, quarantine, or medical testing requirements.
NVIC SUPPORTS HB 809 because it protect citizens in the state of Louisiana from harmful health requirements or mandates from a large organization that stands to financially profit from them. NVIC is opposed to all vaccination mandates. The CDC has a repeated history of untrustworthy behavior and a lack of transparency. Public health messaging during the COVID-19 pandemic was only considered credible if it originated from government health authorities, including the CDC, the World Health Organization, pharmaceutical companies, as well as scientists who parroted their lines with little critical thinking, or as we were told, "Trust the Authorities, Trust the Experts, and Trust the Science." (Caceres, 2023)
Although the public is typically thought to be the source of the problem of false information, during the COVID-19 pandemic governments, businesses, supranational organizations, even academic institutions and scientific journals have contributed to a false narrative as in this article, Caceres, M. (2023, January 16). How Can We Trust Institutions That Lied?. The Vaccine Reaction.
