These bills restore the religious belief exemption for vaccines required for school by adding the following new section to Section 2164 of the public health law:

9. This section shall not apply to children whose parent, parents, or guardian hold genuine and sincere religious beliefs which are contrary to the practices herein required, and no certificate shall be required as a prerequisite to such children being admitted or received into school or attending school.

They also requires the immunization status of children exempt from immunizations pursuant to this new section 9. to be reported by the health care provider by adding reference to the new section 9 to current law, Paragraph (f) of subdivision 5 of section 2168 of the public health law, as amended by chapter 35 of the laws of 2019, that requires reporting of exemptions by health care providers.

NVIC supports restoring the religious belief exemption that was removed in 2019, however NVIC does not support requiring the reporting of religious exemptions by health care providers.
