UPDATE: 1/29/2022 - SB 1884 introduced, Passed on First Consideration on 1/26/2022

HB 1960 and SB 1884 were introduced on 1/26/2022.  HB 1960 is sponsored by Rep. Hulsey and SB 1884 is sponsored by Senator Bowling.

The fiscal note summary for the bills states that they extend "indefinitely the ban on a governmental entity, school, or local education agency mandating a person receive a COVID-19 vaccine, and on a private business or school requiring proof of vaccination to access facilities or receive the benefits of the entity’s products or services."

These bills would prevent the prohibition on state and local government COVID-19 vaccine mandates from expiring on 7/1/2023. This prohibition was inadvertently placed in statute with this expiration date in a previous special session of the Tennessee Legislature. These bills would amend SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 14-6-104, by deleting the language "except for chapter 5" and substituting the language "except for § 14-2-101 and chapter 5".

14-2-101 is the law that was passed in special session in 2021 and will prevent chapter 5 that deals with liability from expiring on 7/1/2022.
