On 8/18/2021, the governor of Maryland announced a COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate on workers in nursing homes and hospitals. Employees of these facilities are required to have their first COVID-19 vaccination dose by 9/1/2021. Unvaccinated employees are subjected to ongoing COVID-19 screening and testing. They may also request that their employers provide them with accommodations by providing documentation for bona fide medical or religious reasons, per a corresponding Maryland Department of Health order.

Nursing homes who fail to comply with mandate, or who fail to report their vaccination data, are subject to increased fines, civil penalties, and enforcement actions.
