Description:

On 8/17/2021, the governor of New Mexico announced COVID-19 vaccination requirements for workers in hospitals, congregate settings, and schools (public, private, and charter).

The congregate settings covered by these requirements include nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adulty day cares, hospice, rehabilitation facilities, state correctional facilities, juvenile justice facilities, residential treatment centers, and community homes.

While the mandate provides a testing option for school employees who do not wish to get vaccinated, workers in hospitals and congregate facilities must be vaccinated, with limited medical and religious exceptions.

The mandate was issued through a public health order by the acting secretary of the New Mexico Department of Health. The order includes the governor’s staff, which face the same requirements as hospital and congregate facility workers.
