Description:

The governor of Connecticut issued Executive Order 13G on 09/10/2021, requiring employees of state agencies and hospitals, schools, and child care facilities to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. The order also covers personnel who do certain types of contract work with these entities. It allows for medical exemptions if the vaccine is likely to be detrimental to the health of an employee, as well as exemptions for sincerely held religious or spiritual beliefs. The order states that these exemptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis, as long as there is no undue burden placed upon the employers to accommodate them.

As an alternative, state employees hired before September 27th, 2021 (excluding those at state hospitals) may opt to submit to regular testing (at least once a week until they are fully vaccinated) as well as any other additional measures imposed by the state agency who employs them, including but not limited to social distancing, mask-wearing, and alternative work arrangements. State employees may choose this option whether or not they have exemption requests.

Similarly, employees of schools and child care facilities hired before September 27th, 2021 may opt for regular testing as well, whether or not they have exemption requests. They would also need to comply with any additional safety precautions imposed upon them by the school or child care facility. Otherwise, they are subjected to the same vaccination requirements as state employees.

The standards for new hires for these entities are the same as for those individuals hired before 9/27/2021.
