Description:

UPDATE: SB 339 failed to move out of the Senate before the deadline of 2/28/2017. https://iga.in.gov/legislative/2017/deadlines/  The legislative session ends on 4/29/2017. 

SB 339 was introduced on 1/9/2017 and referred to the Senate Committee on Health and Provider Services.  This bill is sponsored by Senator Ed Charbonneau.  

This bill would add meningitis vaccine to the current list of vaccines required for students matriculating to a residential campus of a state educational institution.  As introduced current religious belief exemptions would apply. 

Current Exemption Law:

IC 21-40-5-6 Religious objections Sec. 6. (a) Except as otherwise provided, a student may not be required to undergo testing, examination, immunization, or treatment required under this chapter when the student objects on religious grounds. (b) A religious objection does not exempt a student from testing, examination, immunization, or treatment required under this chapter unless the request for an exemption is: (1) made in writing; (2) signed by the student; and (3) delivered to the individual who might order a test, an examination, an immunization, or a treatment absent the religious objection.
