UPDATE: 1/4/2018 - A2857B was referred to the Assembly Higher Education Committee on 1/3/2018. 

UPDATE: 7/19/2017 - A2857A was amended and recommitted to the Committee on Higher Education.  S1043A passed the senate on 6/15/2017 and was delivered to the assembly.  However, bills can carry over to 2018 in New York if the sponsor requests it.

S1043 was introduced on 1/7/2017 and referred to the Senate Committee on Higher Education.  This bill is sponsored by Senators Funke, Akshar, Avella and Kennedy. 

This bill would allow registered pharmacy interns to administer vaccines while in the physical presence of a licensed pharmacist authorized to administer vaccines.   Current law allows pharmacists to administer vaccines with training satisfactory to the commissioner and  the  commissioner of health which shall include, but not be limited to, techniques for screening individuals and obtaining informed consent; techniques of administration; indications, precautions and contraindications in the use of agent or agents; record keeping of immunization  and information;  and  handling emergencies, including anaphylaxis and needlesticks.
