SB 298 was filed on 1/14/2015 and referred to the Senate Education Committee on 1/28/15.  The bill is sponsored by Senator Watson.  The bill adds a meningitis vaccine requirement for school students beginning with the 2016 -2017 school year.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the vaccination against bacterial meningitis of public
school students.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION Section 38.001, Education Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows:
(a-1) Each student shall be fully immunized against
bacterial meningitis, except as provided by Subsection (c). To
satisfy the requirement of this subsection, a student must show
proof of a quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine and a
booster dose in accordance with the recommended immunization
schedule adopted by the Department of State Health Services. The
executive commissioner of the Health and Human Services Commission
shall adopt rules for the implementation of this subsection.

SECTIONA2. Not later than December 1, 2015, the executive
commissioner of the Health and Human Services Commission shall
adopt the rules necessary to implement Section 38.001(a-1),
Education Code, as added by this Act.
SECTIONA3. Section 38.001(a-1), Education Code, as added by
this Act, applies beginning with the 2016-2017 school year.
SECTIONA4.AAThis Act takes effect October 1, 2015.
