UPDATE: 10/27/2015 - S 4324A/ A 791C were signed by Governor Cuomo on Oct. 26, 2015.  Chapter 401. 

UPDATE: 6/30/2015 -S 4324A was substituted for A 791C, passed by the assembly on 6/17/2015 and returned to the senate on June 17, 2015.  The bill has passed both houses.  

Contact Governor Cuomo and ask him to veto S4324A/A791C.

UPDATE: 6/1/2015 - A791 has been amended twice.  The bill is waiting to be voted on by the full Senate.   Contact Senators to oppose.

UPDATE: 5/23/2015 -S 4324 is the companion bill to A 791 and was referred to Senate Health on 3/13/2015.  This bill is sponsored by Senators Hannon and Avella.  S 4324 is scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Health Committee on 5/28/15 at 12:00 PM in Room 124.

A 791 was introduced on 1/7/2015 and referred to the Assembly Health Committee.  The bill is sponsored by Assembly Member Gunther and is cosponsored by Assembly Members Jaffee, O'Donnell, Titone, Lavine, Quart, Zebrowski and Rodriguez.   This bill would mandate a meningitis vaccine for all 6th and 11th grade students by adding the following:

C. EVERY PERSON IN PARENTAL RELATION TO A CHILD IN THIS STATE ENTERING OR HAVING ENTERED SIXTH GRADE AND ELEVENTH GRADE OR A COMPARABLE AGE LEVEL SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM WITH AN UNASSIGNED GRADE ON OR AFTER SEPTEMBER FIRST, TWO THOUSAND SIXTEEN, SHALL HAVE ADMINISTERED TO SUCH CHILD AN ADEQUATE DOSE OR DOSES OF AN IMMUNIZING AGENT AGAINST MENINGOCOCCAL DISEASE AS RECOMMENDED BY THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON IMMUNIZATION PRACTICES, ACIP, WHICH MEETS THE STANDARDS APPROVED BY THE UNITED STATES PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICE FOR SUCH BIOLOGICAL PRODUCTS, AND WHICH IS APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT UNDER SUCH CONDITIONS AS MAY BE SPECIFIED BY THE PUBLIC HEALTH COUNCIL.

Medical and religious exemptions would be allowed, however New York has a history of refusing religious exemptions.
