UPDATE: 7/7/2017 - S601 failed to move in the 2017 legislative session ended. However, bills can carry over to 2018 in New York if the sponsor requests it.
S601 was introduced on 1/4/2017 and referred to the Senate Health Committee. This bill is sponsored by Senator Boyle. This bill would require the commissioner of health in conjunction with the commissioner of education to establish a protocol with specific criteria for all children to comply with in order to qualify for a religious belief exemption. All children would have to be approved under this new protocol before being permitted to submit a request for a religious belief exemption. These new requirements would be put into effect before the 2017-2018 school year.
